New Higher Quality Photos of Old Agents Of Change + Goodies For You

Hello again art lovers,

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I spent some time catching up on something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time.  I finally re photographed the Apoko-Lips PRIMER pieces with a higher quality camera and now have the images displayed on the main gallery page of my website.  There are still a few pieces belonging, chronologically, with the PRIMER pieces that I haven’t re shot yet, but I’ll get to it.  Anyway, it was great to unroll the large-scale pieces and examine them again after all this time.  I attached two of new higher quality photographs below.

Please feel free to take a look at the other three PRIMER pieces and more recent work at ckirkart.com.  For earlier works, click here.

In other news, I recently went through my art storage and came across a few different collections of studies from 2010.  These studies were created with charcoal, chalk, spray paint and tape on 18 x 24″ paper.  They are very visceral and moody.  I shot high quality images of the work and have listed them on the “Shop” page of my website.  I attached one of the pieces below, but if you liked to see the other three, please visit my shop.  If you would like to see high quality or detail photos of the 2010 studies, please contact me from my website.

All NEW Painting! The MR MIRACLE Mythos – “Excappare”

Hello again art lovers,

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I finally finished up the LARGE-SCALE painting I started last December.  I operated a little differently than I normally do.  I usually have a major painting mapped out from top to bottom prior to even picking up a brush, but I had very little planned before returning to this piece.  Pretty much everything other than the figure in black and the rectangle behind him manifested as the painting progressed.  I went with my intuition and it felt good.

Anyway, enough about process, there’s a high quality image of my first piece completed in 2016 and a brief statement about Apoko-Lips below.

http://www.ckirkart.com/

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

Apoko-Lips initiated toward the end of 2013. I was suddenly struck, then obsessed with pictorial concepts of strange messengers. These concepts came to fruition in a collection I now call the Apoko-Lips – Primer. These large oil paintings featured harbingers who foreshadowed awe-inspiring change. Change arrived, wasn’t noticed until after the fact, and has yet to depart. Since then, the ongoing series Apoko – Lips became for me, a collection of allegories depicting transmutation through personalized interpretation of archaic symbolism. Apoko-Lips directed my focus away from contemporary culture, the velocity of information and life lived online through high-tech touch screens, and shifted my contemplation inward. Actions and movements interrupted by glitch, are emphasized in the 2014/2015 Initiation works as a “Note to self” or memento of the physical body, the external world, and to reboot, or expand consciousness. The 2015 Behold The Son Of GRID additions to Apoko-Lips feature outlandish entities who reveal declarations that could be considered confusing, presumptuous, and vitriolic. The experimentation that brought forth the Behold The Son Of GRID works eventually led to upheaval and discord in every area of my personal life, drove me to the edge of sanity, and educated me, through what I can only describe as “Tough love”, on laws of the universe. Fortunately, change is the only constant and I’ve risen from the ashes as an old bard with epics full of metaphor, monsters, and glory in Apoko-Lips – The MR MIRACLE Mythos.

Who needs Ginkgo Biloba?

Hello everyone,

Over the weekend, I measured and then packed away the unstretched “Apoko – Lips” oils in a neat plastic covered roll…well, after admiring them for a while anyway. I don’t know when I’ll exhibit them, but they are definitely safe until then.  With the latest oils packed away, I now have room to start the next phase of my art making.

I haven’t really began the hands on, in studio process yet, but I have designed several collage studies for work I plan to make this year.  I’m still not sure how I plan to execute pieces either.  Oil seems the natural choice, but anyone who has followed my work over the years knows that I like to switch things up in the name of progress.

That being said, I’ve been experimenting and thinking quite a bit about how I can see my new ideas realized.  I’m examining ways to trim down the time of my creation process as well as let loose of the reins of control a bit.  I’m toying with the idea of utilizing backgrounds again and putting into play some techniques I’ve picked up over the years but have rarely used.

Apoko – Lips #2, The Three Furies + SaatchiOnline

Hello all,

I started painting “Apoko – Lips #2” this week.  It’s coming along slowly but steadily.  Over the last two days I painted the bombs and made a start on the inflatable tiger head helmet worn by Fury in front.  It feels good to get some work on the piece done, but I have a long way to go.  I still have to paint the inflatable shark heads, atomic explosions, and the three wide hipped fleshy nude beauties also known as

“The Three Furies”

In the meantime, check out my progress photos below if you like.

In other news, I set up an account with saatchionline.com.  I participate in gallery shows and sell quite a bit of work from my personal website, but after hearing the success that some of my fellow artists have had with saatchionline.com, I decided I might as well try to tap into the saatchi market  and get in on the action.  Anyway, I have uploaded a handful of works ranging in size and medium. I even have made a small number of my “infamous” new sketchbook drawings available for the first time.

Apoko-Lips # 1 Formerly Known As The Gozarian Cometh, World Eater, & Gozer Does Planet Earth

IMG_7775

Hello all,

I finished up my first oil of the fall.  It’s the beginning of a small series of large paintings called “Apoko -Lips”.  The series was going to be much larger, but I found myself combining several pieces to make larger compositions.  The pieces are my next evolutionary step forward.  After I finish these up…I’ll be fresh out of ideas and will have to dick around with my sketchbook while waiting for more.

Anyway…

We all love being engrossed in stories with a post apocalyptic setting, but lets face it..cannibals & zombies just aren’t sexy.

“Apoko – Lips # 1”: My First Oil Painting OF The Fall

IMG_7605

Hello, hello everybody,

I’ve spent the last week painting almost non stop on my first large-scale oil painting of the fall.  I managed to get a lot more done than I expected.  Despite what you might think from the photos, I still have quite a bit of work to do on “Apoko – Lips #1” before it’s complete,  but the composition is gradually coming piece by piece.   It’s so incredibly fun to see  the idea you churned over, changed & added to for months suddenly begin to wake up and spring to life.  Hopefully I’ll get the piece finished up in the next week or so, but until then, enjoy a few of the hundreds of progress photos I’ve taken while painting “Apoko – Lips #1”
