New Apoko-Lips – The Bard Sings “Birds May Fly”

Hello internet,

I’ve been so busy, not to mention incredibly excited, because my brain has been on fire with concepts for new art works.  Toward the beginning of 2016, I felt like my long-term, now prophetic, series Apoko-Lips had come to its natural conclusion with the completion of the large-scale canvas titled “Excappare”, but recent events have shown me otherwise.  It seems Apoko-Lips isn’t through with me just yet.  I feel like the time is ripe for this work, but if I’m wrong, I suppose I’ll see it through anyway.

Is the state of the world getting you down? Is all the blatant inversion of reality frying your brain, leaving you confused and/or mentally deranged? If so, this is one’s for you.

“Birds may fly,
And shit in your eye,
And you might shoot em’ down with a slingshot,
Cats may cry,
Keep you up all night,
Meowing outside in the park,
And you may sip your milk,
And if your milk is spilt,
Do your best not to cry,
But if you do,
Just think of me,
And laugh until you’re high,
HA,HA, HA,
HA, HA, HA,
HA, HA, HA,
HA, HA, HA, HA!”

I won’t say too much at the moment, but I’m experimenting  with story lines and new methods to expand on previous additions of Apoko-Lips such as “Behold The Son Of GRID”, “The M.R. MIRACLE MYTHOS” As shown above, I’m also adding a new addition titled “The Bard Sings”.   These exciting new pieces won’t be on my website for a while,

but….

On Trojan Horses, The #Goonpopulous & Worldwide Pedo Busts

Hello internet,

The progressive and tolerant #goonpopulous showed its ass off at yet again, this time at Berkeley University the night before last.  The violent protest, or riot, is said to have been initiated over a homosexual journalist named Milo Yiannopolis of Breitbart News  , being scheduled to give a talk.  I know, crazy right?

philistine_two

Now, if you haven’t witnessed the violent temper tantrum just yet, or simply don’t believe me, take a look at the footage in the videos below.

Video by Paul Joseph Watson.

If you are currently or recently have been setting things on fire, damaging property, physically assaulting individuals or groups with opposing views, funding or organizing this angry mob, or blindly accepting and spreading ‘news’ with no actual evidence behind it, the statement in this new piece may be meant for you.

“Perhaps you were transformed into an ill-informed simpleton by the prolonged misuse of ‘smart’ technology.”

If the statement above happens to apply to you, know that the revolution has happened already & you missed it. I’d like to include this urgent message of 4 Beatles from across time for the #goonpopulous

Listen carefully.

On a brighter note, the worldwide pedophile ring is unraveling fast. Tons of arrests made around the planet. 474 arrests made, I believe on February 2, 2017, in Los Angeles alone. Google it for more info.

And they said it was a conspiracy.

The Black Wolf That Carries The Stolen Bag Of Countless Treasures – New Watercolor Studies

Hello again art lovers!

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I’m excited.  I’ve completed a few newer watercolors, two which I very pleased with.  A couple of the new pieces a more detailed works and  after spending a handful of days on the, more involved watercolors, I  decided to go back to studies that are less time consuming and more playful.  In some regards, I feel like the simple, whimsical illustrations suit the story better.

ckirk_kakhati_one-2

ckirk_kakhati_one-1The tale centers around an amnesiac who lives alone on an island.  As a result of a frustrating, zen-like conversation with a hungry pelican that swooped down to steal his roasted fish, the amnesiac is charged with a perilous quest and dubbed the “Old fool”.  The old fool must find the black wolf that carries the stolen of bag of countless treasures.  Inside the bag are three items which will console the weeping dragon.

I was thrilled after finishing “The Black Wolf” piece above.  For me, the quick little watercolor is simple and strong.  That’s probably why I’m so captivated by it.  I could’ve done a little more work in the background, but I left it out.  Speaking of background, many of the illustrations for the story will need to include the setting, so I’ve been studying up on painting landscapes with watercolor. Hopefully, I’ll have some aptitude there.  We’ll see.

I love the “Spring Dragon” Piece (Above) very much.  It really took an enormous amount of patience and a lot of work to get the watercolor so rich.  I don’t know how Alex Ross does it.  Anyway, as far as I’m concerned, the time and patience paid off.

img_0016The Old Fool study above is still in progress.  I’ve used little pools of watercolor to form the image and inserted some very visible brush strokes here and there for contrast.  We’ll see how it turns out.

The Hungry Pelican – Two New Studies

Hello again art lovers!

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I’m alright.  I’ve only completed a few newer pieces and they’re  little more than quick studies, but now that my epic is finished, I have a treasure trove of rich, fanciful imagery stored up in the ol’ dream machine.

The Old Fool: An Epic Tale To Enrich Painting

Hello again art lovers!

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I know, its been a while since I’ve posted a new blog entry.  I wish I could say that I’ve been painting for the duration of my M.I.A status, but I haven’t.  You see, I began painting the “Kakhati” art around the simple theme of laughter.  Kakhati is a Sanskrit word from ancient India that roughly translates into English as “Laugh out loud”.  Anyway, after working through a few pieces,  I felt like “Kakhati” could be enriched and possibly even flourish if a little more thought was thrown into the mix.  With this in mind, I attempted something new.  I wrote an epic for source material.

Don’t bet me wrong, I know other artists like William Blake, have been fond of combining their painting and writing talents to make more elaborate works, but I’ve never really utilized the combination.  Writing has always been one of my great hobbies and truthfully, I’ve probably written much more than I’ve painted this year, so it seemed natural to assimilate the hobby into my work.

kakhati_spring_dragonAs you may be able to imagine, I am very excited about the upcoming paintings featuring a selection of imaginative scenes from the epic.  I’m still not sure whether I want to use oil paint for realism, or watercolor for a more whimsical approach to the imagery, so I’ll  probably do both.  A long-time friend and collector of my work phoned the other day, and after hearing about the project, he graciously offered to provide the funding for most of the supplies I needed.  I happily accepted the support, so it’ll only be a matter of time, before the old fool’s adventure is  translated into visual art.

Adding A Little Color To Life – 2 New Watercolors

Hello again art lovers.

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I needed to add a little color in my life, so I painted a few new watercolors.  Well, two are complete, but I’m not sure if the third will be finished.  It may work better as a charcoal or oil.  The first watercolor is titled “Days Of Yore & The Eternal Now”.  The Second is “Venus#1”.  a month or two back, I did a chalk pastel study for Venus#1.  I’ll post it below as well.  Feel free to tell me which version you like better.

The Good News According To Kirk – An All New Watercolor + FRABJOUS Day

Hello again art lovers.

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I’ve been going non-stop.  I rephotographed many of my older works on paper, have been replacing jpegs on ckirkart.com with higher-quality images, and have given my site a bit of a facelift. The website is a work in progress.  There’s quite a few pieces I’d like to add to the site.  Anyway,  I completed a few more “Siren” pastel studies and plotted out many more for future rendering, but I won’t be posting any the new “Siren” pastel studies today.

You see, after a month or so of working with monochrome pastels, I had to get a little color in my life and I painted a watercolor portrait of sorts.  Working with the fluid medium took much longer and was much more difficult than blending pastels with my fingers.  It had been so long since I played with watercolor, that I had to get reacquainted with the medium.  I’m not going to lie, I became discouraged early on during the making of the piece.  I used to be a watercolor wizard, and I began to think that maybe I had lost my touch.  It turns out patience was all that was needed.

ckirk_twinine_b

In other news, I’ve been playing around with the concept of having more frequent, special sales.  You know, like offering 1 piece at a special price for only 1 day each week.  The words “FRABJOUS DAY” from Lewis Carroll’s  story “Through The Looking Glass” pop’d in my head, so I decided I should go ahead with the idea.  So, Friday of each week, until I get bored, will be “FRABJOUS DAY” and I will offer 1 piece at a special price for 24 hours

So, keep an eye out.  This week, Friday the 24, I will be posting the piece below at a special price for 24 hours.
