2013 ‘Pussy Hat’ Prophesy & More

Hello internet,

I’m sure many of you are frightened, but don’t worry, it’s all worked out.

I haven’t posted a blog since November, after the election.  No, I’ve been setting back watching things develop.  Now, I don’t trust one source of news completely, so I look around and compare what different sources are covering and reporting.  After the massive fail and blatant proof of bias, I have thrown off mainstream media outlets such as the Washington Post, CNN, The New York Times, almost completely.  I still venture over to see what spin these networks are putting on current events, but that’s about it.  I’ve heard from a little bird, that these company’s audiences are all suffering and have dwindled down to almost nothing, but that’s only what I’ve heard.

Some interesting developments concerning groups affected, or some might say warped, by prolonged exposure to identity politics have surfaced again the last week or so, and these goons are really showing their asses off.  In fact, after setting in contemplation since the November 8th election, I have discovered more examples of prophesy contained in my 2013 – 2016 art creations, namely in the collections, “Art Is My Way Of Chucking Civilization Out The Window” and of course, “Apoko-Lips”.    Today well take a look at one in particular.

ckirk_csfifteen_b This large-scale museum piece was painted with oil between the years of 2012 and 2013.  It’s titled “It’s Like Having A Gun You Can Pet #2″ or “Pet Gun 2” for short.  Now you can clearly see, in the left-hand corner, the fleeing female, painted with much less fervor, wearing a ‘pussy hat’.  Now before you call me a misogynist, let me tell you that I fully support feminism in its classical form, but what we’re dealing with today is not classic feminism.  No the ideology has been gradually altered via long-term social engineering methods and now we have neo feminism, which is essentially the philosophy that women should be elevated above their male counterparts and are the superior gender.  Now this is totally unbalanced and goes against philosophies that have illustrated the importance of balance in nature for almost 3000 years.  If you factor in the point that there are and have been, far more individuals of male gender, on the planet, at any given time, as there were Jews to be murdered during Adolf Hitler’s reign of terror, the philosophy of neo feminism is clearly shown to be on a higher level of ‘fucked up’ and more dangerous to the human species than Nazi ideology ever was. There is a reason Wonder Woman left Amazon Island ladies.

Anyway, here’s the bad news.  My prophesies generally manifest in some form or other and this 2013  oil piece doesn’t paint a pretty picture for the neo feminists or their ‘pussy hat’ dupes.  It’s clear the pussyhatter is fleeing.  She’s fading.  Her pursuing counterpart is richly colored and the oil is thick.  There is a prehistoric terror bird called Gastornis, which was an apex predator that had no natural  predators of its own.  The masked figure rides the feathery beast like a horse, symbolizing power, and birds flock behind, giving chase as well.  In ancient mystery traditions from around the world, feathers, wings, or birds were symbolic of higher intelligence, so basically, your incredibly flawed ideology is squared off against balance.  The dynamic combination of power and intelligence is against you. You are a piece of the #goonpopulous.  You are beta bitches, and the real, authentic women of the world will not be swayed by your quest for gender supremacy.

To give you a metaphoric example of what I’m talking about, I’ll provide you with a visual aid.  Here’s an crude stop-motion cartoon I made back in 2013.

Now, if you, the reader, think I am being harsh on these misguided simpletons, take a look at some examples from the women’s march that you probably won’t catch watching mainstream media stations such as CNN, reading drivel like the Washington Post, or hanging around in such internet ghettos as Facebook.

After The Elections My 2013-2016 Series Apoko-Lips Began To Look A Little Too Prophetic

Hello internet,

I’m sure many of you are frightened and that’s okay.

I was a little scared before going to bed Tuesday night.  The math eventually made it clear that, despite what the media claimed, Hilary Clinton didn’t have a chance of winning by the Electoral College.  I awoke the next morning and the fear had slipped away.  The prospect of novelty arose.  I’m not saying that Trump’s novelty will be good or bad or if he’ll even make it into office.  I honestly don’t know.  The only thing I know, from experience, is that real change is ugly and I think we can all admit, Donald Trump has been perceived as very ugly.  Anyway after much contemplation, my 2013-2016 series Apoko-Lips began to look a little too prophetic.  Now I’m not claiming I knew how this election was going to play our or what it would reveal, but I knew something was coming round the bend during the creation of the turbulent series.  After all, you can’t have a nation full of flaky people with microscopic attention spans and unsubstantiated mob mentality running riot on social media without some surprises.  Anyway, The series focused on us, our faults, our misuse of technology, and methods of liberation.  Not surprisingly, Apoko-Lips was ignored by the mainstream and I sold very little of the series.  In fact, I damn near went bankrupt, but I kept making the work for over two years because I felt it was important.  After the hopeful illusion of another Clinton Presidency was shattered, it became clear to me, why the series was ignored.

Apoko-Lips is obviously word play on apocalypse.  In popular culture, the word has become associated with the end of the world.  In actually it means ‘To reveal’.  Apocalypse is derived from the Greek word  from Greek apokalyptein “uncover, disclose, reveal,” from apo- “from” (see apo-) + kalyptein “to cover, conceal”

Anyway, we’ve yet to see if the world will end, but I’d say with the biased media coverage revealed and the latest wikileaks, some things have certainly come to light.

That being said, Apoko-Lips initiated toward the end of 2013. I was suddenly struck, then obsessed with pictorial concepts of strange messengers. These concepts came to fruition in a collection I now call the Apoko-Lips – Primer.  These large oil paintings featured ominous harbingers, I called ‘Furies’, who foreshadowed a tremendous change.  Mostly the messengers were ethnic, female, and had prosthetics to overcome disabilities.  The ones which weren’t disabled or ethnic wore animal heads or were being eating by sharks before a napalm explosion.  The largest of the paintings was titled, “Gozer Does Planet Earth” and it featured a misogynistic demagogue spewing fire and riding a black balloon.  A living rainbow with a female face struggled to escape from the balloon and military helicopters swarmed around her head.

I put the oil paints away for the 2nd phase of Apoko-Lips, which was titled ‘Initiation’ and was created with mixed media, photography, and emulsion.  These works  were less ominous in appearance and used hand written graphite messages.  They were a collection of allegories depicting transmutation through personalized interpretation of archaic symbolism.  ‘Initiation’ took a look at contemporary culture, the velocity of information and life lived online through high-tech touch screens.  Eventually, it shifted my contemplation inward.  Actions and movements interrupted by glitch, were emphasized in the 2014/2015 Initiation works as a “Note to self” or memento of the physical body, the external world, and to reboot consciousness.

In other words, it was an attempt to pull the ‘Matrix’ plug out of my ass and become sane again.  It was also an unheard plea for the masses to put their smart phones down for a moment, get in tune with their intuition, and pay attention to the real world.ckirk_thirteen_bExample #13

“Take the red pill or blue pill, or you can take a 1/4 teaspoon of this & release the goddamn’d Kraken”

Now if that doesn’t describe exactly what happened in the 2016 elections, what does?

There are other pieces as well, with plenty of titles that describe what happened this year: “T-Minus 15”, “Burn Down Charizard, Burn It All Down”, “Flying Minotaurs Worry Not While Water Ballooning Young Ladies”, “The Problem With Getting Bigger & Stronger, Is That your Dick Stays The Same Size”.

I expanded the techniques in the third phase and added watercolor.  The 2015 Behold The Son Of GRID additions to Apoko-Lips feature outlandish entities who revealed declarations that could be considered confusing, presumptuous, and vitriolic.  ‘Vitriolic’ is the word I chose to use to describe the statements in the work back in 2015.   In chemistry, vitriol is an archaic name for a sulfate. The name comes from the Latin word “vitriolum” for glassy, as crystals of several metallic sulfates resemble pieces of colored glass.  Basically it’s sulphuric acid.  In Alchemy, vitriol was a motto which meant to ‘Purify’.  Anyway, ‘Vitriol’ is also a word I’ve been reading a lot in the media the last few days.  Perhaps the media, as well as the rest of us, should have read the message in the piece below, which may have given us an idea of what was coming round the bend.

ckirk_twentyfour_b

Example #24 “I Give You The Trivium”

Which basically adds up to, listen, process, act, or to put it simply, refrain from ‘Thinking with the emotions’ which will almost always lead to a reaction rather than an action.

Anyway, the Behold The Son Of GRID works eventually led to upheaval and discord in every area of my personal life and drove me to the edge of sanity. Fortunately, change is the only constant and I rose from the ashes as an old bard with epics full of metaphor, monsters, and glory in Apoko-Lips – The MR MIRACLE Mythos.  This 4th phase saw liberation from duality and the return to sanity.

ckirk_twentyfive_excappare_b

Example #25 “Excappare”

Excappare is latin for ‘Take your cape off’, which roughly translates into english as ‘Surrender’.  You see, when Roman soldiers would surrender to the enemy, they’d remove their cape to signal the surrender.  For me, this meant freeing myself from control, which has has made fear only a transient blip that passes on just as suddenly as it arrives.

In other words, it’s allowed me to say “Fuck it,” and move on.

Apoko-Lips finally came to its natural conclusion with The MR MIRACLE Mythos and I began work on a collection of figurative, portrait studies that fall under the title That Which Is.  I’ll let you work out the meaning of that title yourselves.  That Which Is lasted for a while but soon became stagnant and boring.  I decided to make a series concentrating on foolishness and laughter called Kakhati.  After a few pieces, I became stuck.  I desperately wanted to continue on with the series, so I did something new.  I wrote an epic myth, about the size of a small novel, which proved to provide a large amount of whimsical subject matter.

dsc09693

Example #1 “Kakhati”

Kakhati is a word from Sanskrit which roughly translates into english as “Laugh Out Loud”, or in modern times ‘LoL’.  Anyway, Maybe it’s time, to admit that we’re all fools and none of us know what the hell we’re talking about.  Afterwards we can have a good laugh at ourselves.   I think that might be good, especially now.

In conclusion, this blog post will probably be ignored just like my series Apoko-Lips has been.  After all, nobody likes to look at things that make them uncomfortable or doubtful.  However, I’d like to take this opportunity to be a little bit of a jerk, and to say, “I told you so.”

The Old Fool: An Epic Tale To Enrich Painting

Hello again art lovers!

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I know, its been a while since I’ve posted a new blog entry.  I wish I could say that I’ve been painting for the duration of my M.I.A status, but I haven’t.  You see, I began painting the “Kakhati” art around the simple theme of laughter.  Kakhati is a Sanskrit word from ancient India that roughly translates into English as “Laugh out loud”.  Anyway, after working through a few pieces,  I felt like “Kakhati” could be enriched and possibly even flourish if a little more thought was thrown into the mix.  With this in mind, I attempted something new.  I wrote an epic for source material.

Don’t bet me wrong, I know other artists like William Blake, have been fond of combining their painting and writing talents to make more elaborate works, but I’ve never really utilized the combination.  Writing has always been one of my great hobbies and truthfully, I’ve probably written much more than I’ve painted this year, so it seemed natural to assimilate the hobby into my work.

kakhati_zero

I’ve only completed a few newer pieces and they’re  little more than quick studies, but now that my epic is finished, I have a treasure trove of rich, fanciful imagery stored up in the ol’ dream machine.  The tale centers around an amnesiac who lives alone on an island.  As a result of a frustrating, zen-like conversation with a hungry pelican that swooped down to steal his roasted fish, the amnesiac is charged with a perilous quest and dubbed the “Old fool”.  The old fool must find the black wolf that carries the stolen of bag of countless treasures.  Inside the bag are three items which will console the weeping dragon.

she_bear

kakhati_two

kakhati_spring_dragonAs you may be able to imagine, I am very excited about the upcoming paintings featuring a selection of imaginative scenes from the epic.  I’m still not sure whether I want to use oil paint for realism, or watercolor for a more whimsical approach to the imagery, so I’ll  probably do both.  A long-time friend and collector of my work phoned the other day, and after hearing about the project, he graciously offered to provide the funding for most of the supplies I needed.  I happily accepted the support, so it’ll only be a matter of time, before the old fool’s adventure is  translated into visual art.

What Can You Do But Laugh? First Oil Painting Of A New Series

Hello again art lovers!

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I’m so excited.  I recently finished up the first oil painting of a new series.  I’ve been thinking on the series for some time now.  My wife bought a clown nose from Walgreens for Red Nose Day, a charity that helps children in poverty. I painted a watercolor about a week later that got the ball rolling, but with these type of creative endeavors, the concepts take time to grow, morph and multiply into something tangible.

ckirk_twinine_b

In last week’s blog post, I shared some of the early charcoal pastel/oil stick studies.  The studies were really helpful in the development.  I can’t wait to see how they’ll translate into oil paint.

IMG_0009

I like the way the first piece translated.  As you can see below, the color is vivid, the paint is thick and the pallette knife and brush work is a laugh,  Speaking of laughter, I’m sure you’ve noticed that laughter is the theme.  I figure laughing could be the best remedy, especially when things are greasy, crazy and tits up.  Anyway, I don’t have the artist’s statement worked out yet, but there’s no rush.  I hope you enjoy the upcoming pieces in the “Kakhati” series.

New Higher Quality Photos of Old Agents Of Change + Goodies For You

Hello again art lovers,

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I spent some time catching up on something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time.  I finally re photographed the Apoko-Lips PRIMER pieces with a higher quality camera and now have the images displayed on the main gallery page of my website.  There are still a few pieces belonging, chronologically, with the PRIMER pieces that I haven’t re shot yet, but I’ll get to it.  Anyway, it was great to unroll the large-scale pieces and examine them again after all this time.  I attached two of new higher quality photographs below.

ckirk_zerosix_b

ckirk_zerofive_b

Please feel free to take a look at the other three PRIMER pieces and more recent work at ckirkart.com.  For earlier works, click here.

In other news, I recently went through my art storage and came across a few different collections of studies from 2010.  These studies were created with charcoal, chalk, spray paint and tape on 18 x 24″ paper.  They are very visceral and moody.  I shot high quality images of the work and have listed them on the “Shop” page of my website.  I attached one of the pieces below, but if you liked to see the other three, please visit my shop.  If you would like to see high quality or detail photos of the 2010 studies, please contact me from my website.

Dos Anos Kundalini Raising, Jailed, Hotel Surfing, Homeless, & Finally, The New Studio

Hello again art lovers,

I hope all is well in your world.

I have to admit that I’m elated at the moment.  I’ve again, been experiencing that old, familiar exhilaration that comes along with painting. I believe I’m enjoying the process even more than usual, probably because the possibility of painting was removed from my life for while.

After two years of what I can only describe as a mind-blowing “Kundalini raising” experiment, I found myself fleeing my studio, jailed, hotel surfing, homeless, then on my mother-in-laws couch for a spell.  Fortunately, remaining calm in the face of adversity eventually earned a few nights in fine hotels and being able to celebrate Valentines Day in style.

DSC09428

If a handful of body oil cheese cake parties wasn’t enough to be grateful for, then being able to say that I’m now in a new studio, and have began working again on the piece I started last December, certainly is.

IMG_0004

I began the piece in oil paint, but it had LONG since dried.

DSC09418

I didn’t want to ruin the work done during the December session, so I grabbed a chalk pencil, then brought out more definition with conte crayon.

The piece isn’t quite finished yet, but considering the glee I’m experiencing, it will be completed very soon.  Until then, here’s a peek.

I’ll finish up by mentioning that during my time in purgatory,  I was fortunate enough to receive plenty of ideas of how to translate my experiences into new art and had a ballpoint pen and sketchbook handy.  As I mentioned in my last blog entry, some of the ideas were recorded as songs, or poems to be painted at a later date.  Others came simply as images.  Needless to say, I think I’ll be working non-stop for a while.
