A New Erotic Mythology – 3 Sirens

Hello again art lovers,

I hope you’ve all had a great week.

I’ve been pretty busy.  I finished up a commissioned piece that pretty much replicates my highly popular chalk pastel drawing “An Aging Bard”.  Its not an exact replica of course, but I actually like this version better than the original.  The piece will soon be packed up and shipped to Stockholm Sweden.

In other news, I have a handful of new studies in the works.  So far, I’ve been concentrating on the “Siren” drawings.  In Greek Mythology, the Sirens were beautiful, but dangerous creatures who lured sailors to their doom with enchanting songs.  Since I’m working in chalk pastel and not music, my “Siren” studies focus more on sexuality and so far, the emphasis is on the vagina.

Check out the extra LARGE image of “Three Sirens” below.

New Higher Quality Photos of Old Agents Of Change + Goodies For You

Hello again art lovers,

I hope all is well in your worlds.

I spent some time catching up on something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time.  I finally re photographed the Apoko-Lips PRIMER pieces with a higher quality camera and now have the images displayed on the main gallery page of my website.  There are still a few pieces belonging, chronologically, with the PRIMER pieces that I haven’t re shot yet, but I’ll get to it.  Anyway, it was great to unroll the large-scale pieces and examine them again after all this time.  I attached two of new higher quality photographs below.

Please feel free to take a look at the other three PRIMER pieces and more recent work at ckirkart.com.  For earlier works, click here.

In other news, I recently went through my art storage and came across a few different collections of studies from 2010.  These studies were created with charcoal, chalk, spray paint and tape on 18 x 24″ paper.  They are very visceral and moody.  I shot high quality images of the work and have listed them on the “Shop” page of my website.  I attached one of the pieces below, but if you liked to see the other three, please visit my shop.  If you would like to see high quality or detail photos of the 2010 studies, please contact me from my website.

The Newest “Behold The Son Of GRID” Art + Bonus Video

Hello again art lovers,

I hope you’ve had it good.

I’ve been as busy as ever.  I finished up a new “Behold The Son Of GRID” piece and have another in the works.  The completed art work is titled Apoko-Lips#24 – Behold The Son Of GRID #5.  I used a slew of mediums to create the painting including watercolor, acrylic, transfer pencil, pens, colored pencils, collage, ect, ect.  I don’t usually pick favorites, but if I did, the newest piece would have a good shot at being the favorite among the newer works.  That being said, I’ll go ahead and shut up about it and let you scroll down to view the newest art work.

Detail

About a week after creating the piece above, I realized it was strikingly similar to the early (2013) Apoko-Lips “Primer” oil paintings below.  I don’t imagine this was an accident, but I certainly wasn’t aware of the similarities during the process.  It must have just been pushed through by my subconscious while I was on autopilot.

Apoko-Lips “Primer” The Harbinger, 2013

In other news, I’ve had tons of ideas for video art bouncing around in my head lately.  The ideas are based on the mirror reality exercises I undertook earlier this summer.  Needless to say, if the video art is created, it will definitely be something you don’t see everyday.  I haven’t had time to jump right in and do all the preliminary work needed to begin the actual videos, but since I’m a bit rusty, I decided to put together a short video to get my sea legs back.  It’s not much, but feel free to give it a look below.

I’ll end by mentioning that I’m a little stuck on the “Son Of GRID” piece that is currently in progress, so I don’t know if I’ll have it finished to show you next week.  If not, I’m sure I’ll be along with it soon.  As always, if you’d like to see more of my work, or get information on how to purchase my work, visit my website by clicking the link blow and send me a message.  I’ll be happy to help.

Until next time, have a great week!

A New “Cuddly” Portrait of The Artist As Mythological Sex Machine

Hello again art lovers,

I hope all is well with you.

I’ve been having fun when able.

I said a few months ago that it was about time for me to revisit my theme of “Artist As Mythological Sex Machine”.  After a few botched attempts, I’ve finally came up with a composition that I’m happy with, and it fits nicely into my new Apoko-Lips “Behold The Son Of GRID” art works.  The image below is a continuation on the above mentioned theme.

I tossed just about everything but the kitchen sink into this composition.  Watercolor, acrylic, transfer pencil, graphite, colored pencil, ballpoint pen, and micron pen were used.  Painting mediums aside, I also shot the photography for the collage elements and put together the costumes and face paint.  I used construction paper for the horns and heart above the love god’s head.

I particularly like how the centaur’s body appears to have a cuddly, plush-like texture.

As I mentioned above, the new art work is a continuation of a theme.   Considering this, I uploaded some of the earlier versions that I’ve created over the years below.  Maybe you will enjoy seeing how this idea has developed since its original inception.

I hope you enjoyed taking a look at the development of this theme.  I did.  If you like my newest piece, or the works featured in last weeks blog post, I think you’ll enjoy what’s coming up in future posts.  Each of the Apoko-Lips – Behold The Son Of GRID works feature a different, functional deity in watercolor and a declaration from the Son Of GRID.

Some People Are Just Assholes But GRID Loves You

Hello again art lovers,

I hope the week has been good to you thus far.

assholes_one_scan-2

I’m great.  I just finished up a new triptych that I’ve been working on for a while.  The idea originated back toward the end of 2013 when I did three quick sketchbook watercolors while in Los Angeles.  The concept was much simpler at the time, but over the last several months, some things were stripped away while other brain candy was added.  The new version is not as raw as the original and much more design oriented.  It’s also missing a devil penis but I doubt anyone will fault me for that.

The Police Don’t Bangarang In Imagination Land

Hello again art lovers,

Whether you searched for eggs, celebrated a Middle Eastern poltergeist, got drunk or did all of the above, I hope you had a great easter holiday!

IMG_9803

I took a break from commissions to create a new piece!  In fact, I have a handful of new works in the early “Study phase” that I’m really excited about.  Hopefully I’ll get the bugs worked out of them and the actual pieces created soon.   For now, I’d like to share my latest work.

It’s titled “Apoko-Lips#16 – Portrait of the artist kicking the shit out of cars #2”

ckirk_sixteen_b

The first “Kicking cars” piece I released for public consumption has been pretty popular and while I’m not sure I could ever capture the magic of the original, I wanted to try to create a new “Amp’t up” version.

When my five-year-old saw the piece he asked, “But where are the police?”  Laughing, I reminded him that the police don’t bangarang in imagination land.

The Artist As Mythological Sex Machine

Hello again art lovers,

I hope you are well.

I’ve had a decent week.  Last week was good to.  I sold the 2012 watercolor “Horsecock” to a wonderful collector in New York.  I revisited the centaur theme in 2013 with the collage “Portrait Of The Artist As  Mythological Sex Machine”.  The collage sold in 2014 to a gent in L.A.  Anyway, after realizing my centaur pieces were both in new homes, I’m considering the idea of exploring the theme once again.  I think a new version would fit beautifully into Apoko-Lips.
