On Internet Ghettos

Hello internet,

Internet ghettos very often, are one of two things. They are safe lullaby chambers where one will coo while being soothed with only what is ideologically acceptable to them, or heavily fortified keeps where one can rage with little hope of affecting change. I would also add that the Internet ghetto, for the truly deranged, acts as a mirrored echo chamber base of operations from which the user’s image is repeatedly thrust into the matrix and reflected back at them. Desperate pleas such as “Look at me, look at me, look at me!” reverberate throughout the system, add infinitum.  What shall we do now?

internet_ghettos

What about a holiday? I have always taken breaks for social media, mainly to create new work, but since 2013, the breaks have become longer and more contemplative. It’s funny how clear things can become, both internally and externally, once you pull the matrix plug out of your ass and start walking in the waking world again. I won’t say that disengaging from the system is a cure for all ailments, but it’s a start, and when you reenter the internet ghetto of your choice, either for leisure or necessity, you see the construct for what it is and not what it appears to be.

Charcoal Drawing – ZEROG RAINBO GODRA & The Shit Storm

Hello again art lovers,

I hope you have all been well.

Its been a couple of weeks since I’ve typed up a new post.  I wish I could say that I have been enjoying leisurely days, taking a vacation from the internet, or producing new art, but unfortunately, it was only one of those shit storms that we’re all familiar with.  You know, the ones that pop up now and again that put most everything else on hold?  The shit storm has a kinder name in the Hermetic Principles. It’s known as the “Back swing” contained in the principle of rhythm.  Thankfully, I think the backswing is about over and I’m getting ready for the upswing.

Enough about that.  Just before the “Back swing” I was able to set down and formulate some new ideas for art works.  Some of my collectors may be thrilled.  These potential art works will see a return to the mediums of charcoal sticks and oil paint.  I haven’t been away from oil for very long, but charcoal is another story.  It’s probably been a few years since I’ve created any serious charcoal work.  That being said, I managed to crank out a quick study of my ZEROG RAINBOW GODRA character a couple of weeks back.  I hope you like it.

Playing With Charcoal & The Concept Of The Divine Clown

Hello again art lovers,

I hope you all had an excellent Halloween!

I felt compelled to break out my charcoal sticks.  It’s been about a year since the last time I played around with charcoal.  The concept of Shaman as the Divine Clown or trickster bounced around in my head.  I did a few drawings and enjoyed working with the charcoal again.  I’ll probably do more work in this medium.  A return to oil painting has also been on my mind lately.  We’ll see what happens.

The Newest “Behold The Son Of GRID” Art + Bonus Video

Hello again art lovers,

I hope you’ve had it good.

I’ve been as busy as ever.  I finished up a new “Behold The Son Of GRID” piece and have another in the works.  The completed art work is titled Apoko-Lips#24 – Behold The Son Of GRID #5.  I used a slew of mediums to create the painting including watercolor, acrylic, transfer pencil, pens, colored pencils, collage, ect, ect.  I don’t usually pick favorites, but if I did, the newest piece would have a good shot at being the favorite among the newer works.  That being said, I’ll go ahead and shut up about it and let you scroll down to view the newest art work.

Detail

About a week after creating the piece above, I realized it was strikingly similar to the early (2013) Apoko-Lips “Primer” oil paintings below.  I don’t imagine this was an accident, but I certainly wasn’t aware of the similarities during the process.  It must have just been pushed through by my subconscious while I was on autopilot.

Apoko-Lips “Primer” The Harbinger, 2013

In other news, I’ve had tons of ideas for video art bouncing around in my head lately.  The ideas are based on the mirror reality exercises I undertook earlier this summer.  Needless to say, if the video art is created, it will definitely be something you don’t see everyday.  I haven’t had time to jump right in and do all the preliminary work needed to begin the actual videos, but since I’m a bit rusty, I decided to put together a short video to get my sea legs back.  It’s not much, but feel free to give it a look below.

I’ll end by mentioning that I’m a little stuck on the “Son Of GRID” piece that is currently in progress, so I don’t know if I’ll have it finished to show you next week.  If not, I’m sure I’ll be along with it soon.  As always, if you’d like to see more of my work, or get information on how to purchase my work, visit my website by clicking the link blow and send me a message.  I’ll be happy to help.

Until next time, have a great week!

The Dr. Seuss/Cookie Monster Feel Contrasts With Esoteric Knowledge.

Hello again art lovers,

I hope you’ve all had a great week and are as excited about Fall as I am!

I’ve been really going at it lately.  Currently, I have three new “Behold The Son Of GRID” pieces finished.  I plan to feature one of the allegorical paintings a week until I run out.  Hopefully by then, I’ll have more work to show.  This week’s featured piece is titled Apoko-Lips#23 – Behold The Son Of GRID #4.   It was created with watercolor, acrylic, graphite, ballpoint pen, micron pen, transfer pencil, colored pencil & collage.  I really like how the Dr. Seuss/Cookie Monster feel contrast with the esoteric knowledge that’s scribbled onto the background.

After going through the laundry list of mediums I’ve been using to create these new works of art, I think I’ll elaborate on the collage areas a little.  A handful of people have asked about the contents of the collage pieces.  Basically, what I’ve done is slather black face paint on and then take high-resolution photos that can be enlarged to any size with out loosing resolution.  Next, I decide upon some symbolic ornaments for the face and create the pieces from construction paper.  Afterward these ornaments are scanned at high-resolution also, and I begin arranging them in a study like the one shown below.  After the painting part is complete and most importantly, dry, the decorated head/heads or collage into the work.

I hope you enjoyed the new piece.  If you are interested in this work, other additions to Apoko-Lips, or earlier works of art, feel free to visit my website and contact me.  I’ll be happy to help.

As always, keep an eye out for a new blog post next Wednesday.  I’ll be featuring a new work of art (Detail below) and possibly a little insight into the piece.

Back To One Of My True Loves, WATERCOLOR!

Hello again art lovers,

I hope you are all doing great!

The Autumnal Equinox began only a handful of hours ago.  The event is a great time to take stock, throw out what hasn’t worked, then further utilize and develop what has.  This year, I took the opportunity to get an early start on this process.

As I mentioned in last weeks blog, I’ve been experimenting with the “Packaging” of my ideas.  This exhaustive experimentation finally led me back to one of my true loves.  Watercolor.  I feel so awesome right now.  I just finished up two new pieces, one of which has a HEAVY WATERCOLOR element.  Anyone who has followed this blog for any length of time might remember that in 2013, I made a slew of KICK-ASS watercolors that made up a series titled “Art Is My Way Of Chucking Civilization Out The Window“.  The watercolors were probably the most popular works of art I have ever made.  I’m not sure if their popularity was due to the loose, splashy technique, or because I was drunk while painting them and locked in lower brain circuits, and experiencing a left brain centered imbalance which would naturally appeal to the masses.  I suppose  it doesn’t matter.

Anyway, as I’m sure you’ve gathered, I’m really excited.  After a six moth break from making art in mid 2014, I picked the watercolors up again, only to be disappointed that I couldn’t utilize them the way I had before.  I decided to put the my old pan set away and chalked the failure up to my not being inebriated on a daily basis anymore.  That being said, it’s been about a year since my botched attempts,  and finally, I decided to grab the watercolors from my storage closet and give it another shot.  I’m very pleased with the results!  I also used watercolor, acrylic, graphite, micron pen, ballpoint pen, transfer pencil, varnish, glue & collage to create the work.

The new piece is titled

“Apoko-Lips#20 – Behold The Son Of GRID #2 – Do not make war with your dragon”

If that wasn’t enough to make my week, I also created another experimental piece prior to the one above.  I used watercolor in it, but primarily acrylic and spray paint.  It is titled

“Apoko-Lips#20 – Behold The Son Of GRID #1 – Do not make deals with deities”

Until next time, have a great week!

Experimenting With The Packaging – Prototypes For New Art

Hello again art lovers,

I hope you’re well.

I’m alright.  Quite a bit has been going on.  I’ve been making tons of art, but I’m not sure if everything I’ve made will make my final cut for new work.  I’ve been bouncing the same ideas around in my head for a while and lately, I’ve been experimenting with the “Packaging” of these ideas.  I’ve found three to four different ways to present every idea and yes, my 6 year-old still isn’t happy about his “Missing” construction paper.  That being said, I am posting photos below of some of the things I’ve been working on.  Feel free to let me know what you think.
